Pre-care

Before your biostimulator appointment

Swelling and bruising are common after biostimulator treatment, so leave some time before a special event or trip. We are happy to help you plan the timing.

  • No active infections or antibiotics within 2 weeks of your appointment.
  • No dental work for 2 weeks before your appointment.
  • Do not book your treatment if you are travelling out of the country within 2 weeks of your appointment, so we are nearby if you have any concerns.
  • Avoid blood thinners for 72 hours before. This includes Advil and other blood-thinning medications. Tylenol is OK.
  • No alcohol, smoking, cigarettes or vapes for 24 hours before your appointment.
  • No vaccines of any kind within 4 weeks of your injections.
  • Tell us about any changes to your health, medications or recent treatments.

Aftercare

After your biostimulator treatment

Bruising and swelling are common after biostimulator treatment and usually improve over the following days. Unlike filler, results appear gradually over several weeks as your skin builds new collagen, and most treatment plans include a series of sessions. Follow these steps to stay comfortable and protect your results.

First 24 hours

  • Sculptra®: massage the treated area exactly as your nurse shows you, usually 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Radiesse®: do not massage or manipulate the treated area unless your nurse advises otherwise.
  • Apply a clean cold compress to help with swelling.
  • No alcohol, smoking, cigarettes or vapes.
  • No strenuous exercise.
  • No saunas, hot tubs, hot baths or steam rooms.

That evening

  • You can wash your face that night, using light pressure.
  • No retinol that night.
  • No makeup until the next day.

First 72 hours

  • No blood-thinning medications, including Advil.
  • Tylenol is OK if you need it.

First 3 nights

  • Change your pillowcases.
  • Sleep on your back.

First 2 weeks

  • No facials or laser skin treatments.

Biostimulator aftercare FAQ

Why can’t I travel out of the country within 2 weeks of my treatment?

Complications after injectable treatments are rare, but if one happens it needs prompt attention. Staying close for the first 2 weeks, while swelling and bruising settle, means we can see you quickly if you have any concerns.

Why do I need to avoid dental work before my treatment?

Dental work can introduce bacteria and cause inflammation in the area. Waiting 2 weeks between dental work and your treatment helps lower the risk of infection.

Why should I sleep on my back after my treatment?

Sleeping on your back for the first 3 nights avoids pressure on the treated area while the product settles. Fresh pillowcases help keep the area clean.

When can I exercise after a biostimulator treatment?

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment.

Can I take Tylenol after my treatment?

Yes. Tylenol is OK. Avoid Advil and other blood-thinning medications for 72 hours after your treatment.
