Pre-care
Before your appointment
Redness, swelling and some bruising are common for a few days after treatments that use PRP or PRF, so leave some time before a special event or trip. We are happy to help you plan the timing.
- Eat a meal and drink plenty of water before your appointment. Your treatment starts with a small blood draw.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications for 1 week before, such as Advil, Aleve and Aspirin, unless prescribed by your doctor. Tylenol is OK.
- Avoid blood-thinning supplements for 1 week before, such as fish oil, vitamin E and ginkgo.
- No alcohol, smoking, cigarettes or vapes for 24 hours before your appointment.
- No active infections or antibiotics within 2 weeks of your appointment.
- Pause retinol and exfoliating acids for 3 days before a facial treatment that uses PRP or PRF.
- Tell us about any changes to your health, medications or recent treatments, including any blood disorders.
Aftercare
After your treatment
PRP and PRF work with your body’s own healing response, so some redness and swelling is normal and usually improves within a few days. Results build gradually over several weeks, and most treatment plans include a series of sessions. Follow these steps to stay comfortable and protect your results.
First 24 hours
- Expect redness and mild swelling, similar to a sunburn. This usually settles within 1 to 3 days.
- After microneedling with PRP, leave the serum on your skin and do not wash your face until the next morning.
- No makeup for 24 hours.
- No alcohol, smoking, cigarettes or vapes.
- No strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, hot baths or steam rooms.
That evening
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase.
- Keep your head slightly elevated to help with swelling.
- After a hair treatment, do not wash your hair until the next day.
First 72 hours
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer only. No retinol or exfoliating acids.
- Wear SPF 30 or higher and avoid direct sun.
First week
- No anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil. Mild inflammation is part of how PRP and PRF work. Tylenol is OK.
- No hair dye or chemical hair treatments for 72 hours after a hair treatment.
First 2 weeks
- No facials or laser skin treatments.

PRP & PRF aftercare FAQ
Why do I need to avoid Advil before and after?
PRP and PRF work by triggering your body’s natural healing response. Anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil can dampen that response, so we ask you to avoid them for 1 week before and after any treatment that uses PRP or PRF. Tylenol is OK.
Why should I eat and hydrate before my appointment?
Your treatment starts with a small blood draw. Eating beforehand and being well hydrated makes the draw easier and helps you feel your best.
When can I wash my face?
After microneedling with PRP, leave the serum on your skin until the next morning, then wash gently. After a PRP or PRF Face Lift, you can wash gently that evening unless your nurse advises otherwise.
When can I exercise after a treatment that uses PRP or PRF?
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment.
Can I take Tylenol after my treatment?
Yes. Tylenol is OK. Avoid Advil and other anti-inflammatory medications for 1 week after your treatment.
