Daxxify is a brand of botulinum toxin type A used to soften the frown lines created by facial expression. What is Daxxify?
Daxxify is a purified botulinum toxin type A preparation whose active ingredient is daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm, manufactured by Revance Therapeutics.[1] It was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2022 for the temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows.[1] It is one of the newer members of the botulinum toxin family and, like the others, is a prescription medicine intended to soften the lines caused by facial movement.
How Daxxify relates to botulinum toxin type A
Daxxify belongs to the same botulinum toxin type A family as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Nuceiva. What makes Daxxify different
Two features distinguish Daxxify from earlier neuromodulators. First, its formulation: instead of being stabilised with human serum albumin, Daxxify uses a proprietary synthetic peptide to stabilise the toxin.[1] Second, and most discussed, is its duration—in clinical studies the effect on frown lines lasted a median of around six months, with some people seeing results persist longer, compared with the roughly three to four months typical of other products.[1] This longer duration is the main reason Daxxify has drawn attention, though individual results vary and duration is not the only factor in choosing a product.
What Daxxify is used for
In aesthetics, Daxxify’s approved cosmetic use is for moderate-to-severe frown lines at the glabella—the vertical lines between the brows.[1] These are classic dynamic wrinkles, driven by repeated muscle movement, which is exactly the type of line neuromodulators are designed to soften. As with all botulinum toxin products, it is best suited to lines that appear with expression rather than those already etched into the skin at rest. Onset, duration and what to expect
Like other neuromodulators, Daxxify’s effect is not instant; it develops over the days following treatment as the muscle gradually relaxes, with the result building over roughly a week or two.[1][2] Its defining characteristic is how long the effect can last—often around six months in trials—which may mean fewer treatments per year for some people.[1] Because the effect is still temporary, movement gradually returns and maintaining a result means repeating treatment over time. As with every botulinum toxin brand, Daxxify’s dosing units are specific to it and are not interchangeable with those of other products.
Safety, and who should administer it
Daxxify is a prescription medicine that should be administered only by a qualified, trained healthcare professional after an individual assessment.[1] Common, temporary side effects reported with botulinum toxin treatments can include mild bruising, headache or—if the toxin affects nearby muscles—a temporary drooping of the brow or eyelid. Because dose and injection points must be tailored to the individual, and units differ between products, treatment should be planned by an experienced injector.
